Somerset is a great destination to enjoy a walking holiday, perfect for lovers of the great outdoors.
An infinite variety of byways, bridlepaths, towpaths and footpaths await, traversing high heather moor, low lying wetland, limestone gorge, farmland and coast. Ramble amid an abundance of wildlife from tiny plants found only on the Somerset Levels to Britain's largest wild mammal, the magnificent Red Deer of Exmoor.
Wander over five ranges of hills, the Blackdowns, Mendips, Quantocks, Brendons and Poldens. Each offers individual character and far reaching views.
Dedicated walking routes crisscross the Somerset countryside, the Cotswold Way and the South West Coast Path start in Somerset, the latter at Minehead - gateway town to Somerset's heather clad crowning glory, the Exmoor National Park where you can escape in solitude amid 269 square miles.
A paradise for walkers, cyclists and horse riders with hundreds of miles of public access, spectacular scenery and sparkling streams, Somerset has beauty and space and is a wonderful county to explore on foot, bike or horseback.
